보자르 매거진의 네명의 필자는 본지에 작품의 가상 구매 상황을소개하고자 한다 : 치솟는 가격 (50만 유로에서 100만 유로 까지)의 작품으로 구성된 목록(10 가지 상황)이다. 아! 내가 부자라면...

처음에는 이 가상 구매가 겉만 그럴듯 해보이고 저속해보일 수 있다. 하지만 그 수치와 기준의 불안정함을 말하기 이전에, 우리는 작품을 낱낱히 파헤쳐보거나 열광할 수 있다. 그러면서 비평적 시선과  다른 구상과 개념을 떠올릴 가능성이 있을 것이다. 이 상상 수집을 시작하면서, 안드레아스 거스키[각주:2]의 최근 작품을 포기해야 할 지 모르겠다. 그는 현대 사진예술계에서 빼놓을 수 없는 주요 작가이다. 그의 최근작품은 1990년대 초기의 작품과는 사뭇 다르게 공격이나 현기증을 유발하지 않는다. 엘레인 스터트번트[각주:3]  의 소품 워홀 블랙 마릴린Warhol Black Marilyn 는 적합하지 않는다고 생각한다. 그리고 트리샤 도넬리[각주:4] 의 모호한 작품은 담담하면서도 매혹을 잃지 않는 드문 매력의 작가라고 생각한다. 또 우리가 잠깐 잊은 한스-피터 펠드만 [각주:5]의 작품도 있다. 에로틱하고, 폭력적이면서, 범속한 이미지들이 그를 대표한다. 필자는 한편 하임 스타인바흐[각주:6] 의 장식적 수단을 항상 선호한다. 그리고 조셉 코수스[각주:7] 의 전제적 면도 좋아한다. 미니멀 아트의 우회적 표현으로 다양한 상품을 구매하여 선반 위에 진열하고 있다. 우리가 피카비아나 뒤샹  역사적 작가라고 인정한다면, 근대 작가들의 작품을 구매할 수도 있다. 내가 만약 수중에《백만》이 있다면, 쥴리 머레투(40세, 에티오피아계 미국인)의 작품을 구매할 것이다. 그녀의 작품은 지난 9월 25일 뉴욕 소더비 경매에서 레만Lehman(그는 은행가이다! )에게 85만 달러(부가가치세 포함) 로 낙찰되었다. 거의 15년 동안 내가 계속 전세계를 통틀어 가장 소중한 작가라고 말해왔던 사람이다. 하지만 이 가상 구매 목록을 완성하기 위해 다른 작가들에게도 눈을 돌려야한다면, 우선 크리스토퍼 울[각주:9] 을 선택하겠다. 라우센버그Rauschenberg, 톰블리Tombly의 천재적 후계자이다. 지금 그의 작품가는 급등한(5년 전에 그의 작품을 1만8천 달러에 살 수 있었다 ) 상황이다. 그의 작품을 찾아서 구매할 수 있다 망설일 필요가 없을 것이다...15만 유로로 그의 대형작품을 사겠다. 그리고 이후에도 예산이 남는다면 내가 1982년 부터 계속 옹호애왔던 갤러리의 작품들을 구매하겠다 : 바로 토니 크래그[각주:10]이다. 그의 작품가는 천천이 오르고 있으므로 훌륭한 걸작을 28만 유로에 구입할 수 있다. 내게 아직 57만 달러가 남았다. 나는 빔 델보에[각주:11]의 《고딕풍 화물차》에 15만 5천 유로를 사용하고, 질 바비[각주:12] 의 작품 라루스 삽화집Larousse illustré[각주:13] 을 구매할 것이다. 그 역시, 델보이처럼《그만의 세계를 구축하는》작가이다. 그리고 나는 현대예술을 떠나 아프리카 예술로 눈을 돌릴 것이다. 바로 분다Mbunda(잠비아) 마스크이다. 그리고 나서의 차액은  미쉘 프랑수아[각주:14] 의 조각과 다른 젊은 작가들에 투자할 것이다 : 아담 제인스[각주:15], 미카엘 드 루치아[각주:16], 로버트 쉬몬트[각주:17], 카일리앙 양[각주:18] 등이다. 그래도 내겐 6만 1천 유로가 남았다. 이 자금으로 뫼비우스의 원화를 살 수 있을 것이다! 하지만 이 가상 구매가 10명의 작가를 초과해서는 안되기에, 여기서 멈추어야겠다. 어쩔 수 없지만, 마크 데그랑샴[각주:19], 리오넬 에스테브[각주:20], 에바 로취필드[각주:21], 파스칼 오드르시[각주:22]의 우울한 초상을 구매하겠다.     1988년 너무 일찍 사라져버린 바스키아의 작품은 경매의 가격을 치솟게 한다. 항상 합리적이진 않다. 28세에 약물 중독으로 생을 마감한 그의 이면화가 드루-몽텐에서 백만유로에 낙탈되었다. 1981년에 완성된 이 그림은 뉴욕의 이스트빌리지의 아파트 벽채에 그려졌던 것이다. 열기에 들뜬 크레용의 흔적과 빠른 에스키스가 중첩된 이 작품은 미완성작이다. 백만 유로를 모두 써야하는 것이 아니라면 보다 작은 크기의 다채로운 색감과 강렬하면서 공격적이고 표현적인 작품을 더 좋아한다. 그러니까 바스키아는 종이위에서 더 뛰어났다는 것이다. 하지만 경매는 그점을 간과했다. 같은 경매에서, 세자르의 마분지를 압착시킨 작품을 구매할 것이다. 로마시대 젊은 여인의 두상과 뒤러의 경이로운 판화, 그리고 브랑쿠시Brancusi만큼이나 아름다운 아프리카 공예품을 낮은 가격에 구매할 것이다. 그리고 미로의 브론즈 조각이나 리차드 아베동Richard Avedon[footnote]Richard Avedon (American, 1923-2004) Find works of art, auction results & sale prices of artist Richard Avedon at galleries and auctions worldwide [본문으로]
